As soon as your home is up for sale, it’s not long before those all-important viewings begin, and we want nothing more than potential buyers to walk away from your home thinking “it’s the one”! We are going to give you our top tips on how to make your home look its best.

First impressions are important, so your front garden or driveway is where we will begin. To make your outdoor areas appealing:

You may hear “tidy” a lot during your home sale, but it is definitely one of our most important tips. The front of your home needs to be welcoming to viewers, so be sure to remove any weeds, leaves or rubbish to create a pleasant and accessible path to your front door.

Especially during the colder months, our gardens are often filled with bare trees, leaves and need a bit of colour. Add a couple of pot plants or a flowerbed to make your home stand out from the rest.

When viewers are on the way, be sure to keep your driveway or the front of your house clear. For a lot of potential buyers, parking is a must, so this tip ensures that they can easily park and puts a tick on their list of desired features.

Once you’ve got them past the garden gate and wowed them by your home exterior, you need to create a warm and welcoming interior that makes the viewers get that “at home” feeling as soon as they walk through the door.

During the winter months, entrance halls and homes in general can feel dark and dreary. Open blinds and curtains to let in as much natural light as possible and if needed, don’t be afraid to turn on lamps to give your lounges and bedrooms a bright uplift. This will add a cosy touch, too!

This sounds like an obvious tip, but there’s more to this one than meets the eye… Make sure that clutter is put away so that viewers can see all the space that your home has to offer. Also, using a room spray or lighting a candle before a viewing can create a sensory memory in a viewer's mind that they will remember.

There are always those odd jobs that we never quite get around to completing! However, the last thing you want is for a viewer to turn on the bathroom light and the bulb to have gone. We recommend walking around your home and making a checklist of anything that needs fixing. This aims to avoid any negative thoughts entering the viewers mind.

Our last top tip is to welcome your viewers into a warm home. Particularly during the chilly weather, you wouldn’t want to come home to a cold house, so ensure your heating is on to add to that positive sensory experience.

We are sure that following these top tips will help you set the scene for the viewer and give them the best insight into how your property could become their new home from home!
